An Introduction to Laser Cleaning

For humans, using tools represents a progressive stage of development, and metal tools have now become integral in many aspects of daily life. Indeed, the use of metal tools brings great convenience to people, but due to the properties of metal, it tends to rust in humid environments. This necessitates various protective measures, such as electroplating, painting, and oil immersion, all aimed at isolating the metal from the air. However, in certain specific applications, these methods are not feasible, and so alternative rust removal methods are also essential.

In the past, rust removal relied on grinding, polishing, or chemical treatments. However, with advancements in laser processing, a new and effective method has emerged—laser rust removal. Over the past decade, laser technology has developed rapidly, and since metal absorbs laser energy well, laser processing has become an efficient non-contact method for working with metals. Machines designed for this purpose are called “cleaning machines.” The rust on metal is essentially metal oxide, and laser beams, which carry high energy, can vaporize these metal oxides with minimal impact on the metal itself. Laser rust removal has quickly found applications across various industries, especially in shipyards and metal fabrication plants. In these metal-related industries, laser cleaning offers advantages such as convenience, speed, and environmental friendliness. Additionally, while cleaning surface rust, it does not harm the material itself, allowing metal materials to have a longer service life.
Of course, laser rust removal equipment is not only used for metal rust removal, but also plays a significant role in oil removal, decontamination, and coating removal. By using high-temperature burning, the attachments on the surface of the object are quickly vaporized, thereby achieving the goal of removal and cleaning. Additionally, laser cleaning has many advantages. For instance, compared to chemical cleaning methods, laser cleaning is more environmentally friendly. Compared to grinding and polishing methods, laser cleaning is faster and more convenient. In many narrow spaces where hands cannot reach, laser cleaning equipment can also be used effectively. In modern cities, the use of various paints is very common, but removing paint can pose significant challenges, leading to serious pollution and often failing to effectively remove the paint. Laser cleaning, on the other hand, can effectively remove paint from the surface of objects while minimizing damage to the material itself.
